Cutting Bus Service

Share

At a time when we should be moving toward more mass transit, it seems illogical that Chairman Roger R. Stanton of the Orange County Transit District board would propose to cut back service. Most would prefer to see the present system preserved or improved rather than restricted.

After a recent OCTD hearing, it was apparent that representatives for the handicapped and seniors do not not want to be segregated. They prefer to share the system with all the needy. Ray Bronk, who is handicapped, tried to explain to Stanton his concern for the general population, especially those living in South County, who are not adequately serviced by the fixed-route system.

Chairman Stanton (should) continue service to the handicapped, seniors, youths and low-income persons. I think it is time he started representing all of us. There must be an economical way in which to qualify individual callers who are requesting service, rather than eliminating the general population.
