Planning Ahead for a Thirsty County

We’ve been reading a lot about water conservation. Requests are made by supervisors, the water department and our city councils for us to cut back on water use. The requests include all of us water-users.

It so happens that recently I watched a raging fire engulfing an entire warehouse, an abandoned building scheduled to be torn down for reconstruction.

The amazing part was watching 11 fire hoses pouring water into its interior, which was doomed for complete destruction. All that water was useless to save any part of the building and was done merely to extinguish the blaze.

Millions or thousands and thousands of gallons of water must have been used. I watched steaming water running out of the building exits and firemen wading in it ankle-deep, and I stood there wondering how all its waste affects our water conservation program.
