NAMES IN THE NEWS : Hockey Star’s Wife in ‘Playboy’

From the altar to the centerfold.

On Saturday, Martine Bernier married Toronto Maple Leafs forward Daniel Marois in Drummondville, Quebec.

Today, a nude picture of Bernier will appear in Playboy magazine.

“I’m very proud of her,” Marois said, hugging his 21-year-old wife. “I’m so excited for her. I mean, it’s Playboy!”

Bernier poses as part of a Girls of Canada pictorial in the August issue, which includes 19 other Canadian women.

The pictures were taken two years ago in Chicago.

“It was difficult because I had never posed naked before,” said the Montreal-born Bernier, who runs a tanning spa in Pickering, Ontario. “I’m a shy person but they were so nice and so professional so it seems like you’re not doing anything bad.”

She says her family doesn’t mind.

“My grandfather’s been getting Playboy for 37 years.”
