Pomona : Institute to Help in Remap

Share

The City Council has contracted with the Rose Institute of State and Local Government at Claremont McKenna College to help draw boundary lines for six council districts. The new districts will take effect at the municipal elections next March.

The institute will receive $16,400 to conduct community meetings, provide technical data and analyze plans.

Voters on June 5 approved measures to increase the number of council seats from four to six and to conduct elections by district rather than citywide. The mayor will continue to be elected citywide.

Alan Heslop, senior research associate at the Rose Institute, said work on the boundaries should be completed by September. Candidates may begin filing nomination papers for the council seats in December.
