Dennis McDuffie, former city manager in Rancho Palos Verdes, has been named interim city manager in the neighboring city of Rolling Hills. McDuffie takes the place of Terry Belanger, who resigned as Rolling Hills city manager last month.

“We’re delighted,” Rolling Hills Mayor Tom Heinsheimer said. “For us it’s a great coup to get someone who’s as knowledgeable about the community and the area as Dennis is.”

McDuffie, who was city manager of Rancho Palos Verdes for three years, did not seek to extend his contract with that city in February. His departure was preceded by months of friction between him and two members of the Rancho Palos Verdes City Council.

McDuffie, who could not be reached for comment, has previously said he plans to move to Sacramento in the fall to attend law school.

His contract with the City of Rolling Hills lasts until Sept. 1.

The city has contracted with Norm Roberts & Associates to aid in its search for a permanent manager. The firm specializes in placing public administration employees.

McDuffie, who will assume his post today, will be paid at a rate of $65,000 a year.
