L.A. Festival Boon: More than 300 registration forms--some representing as many as 10 confirmed performing groups and events apiece--have been received so far by organizers of the Open Festival, in which artists will produce their own performing and visual arts events for the non-curated portion of September’s Los Angeles Festival. “Right now, it’s looking like we’re going to have nearly 50% more . . . events and groups than we did last time,” said Open Festival coordinator Aaron Paley, who noted that 500 groups produced 450 events at 210 sites for 1987’s Fringe Festival, which was the precursor to the 1990 Open Festival. Although Paley had set last Friday as his registration deadline, he said Monday that he will continue to accept confirmed events and groups through the end of this week.
