‘1,000 Pints of Light’ Help Him Break the Ice

NEW YORK —
Dr. Joe Kramer, who gave up a successful suburban practice 22 years ago and set up shop in the Lower East Side, received 1,000 pints of reduced-fat ice milk from an ice cream company Tuesday for his longtime community service.
The company calls the honor Ben & Jerry’s 1,000 Pints of Light Award. Kramer immediately invited children from his poverty- and drug-plagued neighborhood to a block party, at which he shared his palatable prize.
