Jim McMahon, traded from the Chicago Bears to the San Diego Chargers a year ago to be a starting NFL quarterback again, has accepted a one-year contract believed to be worth $450,000 to back up Randall Cunningham with the Philadelphia Eagles.

McMahon’s agent, Steve Zucker, was believed to have talked with the New England Patriots, Raiders and New Orleans Saints, teams that might have offered McMahon, 30, a chance to compete for the starting quarterback job. But no solid offer resulted and McMahon, who was released by the Chargers.
