Cerritos : Council to Discuss Proposal for Mall at Towne Center

Share

A consultant’s report on whether a shopping mall should be built in the Towne Center redevelopment area is scheduled to be discussed at the meeting Tuesday of the Cerritos City Council.

However, not all of the report, which was done for the city by Economic Research Associates of Los Angeles, will be made public. City Atty. Kenneth Brown insisted that under provisions of the state’s open public meeting act, certain portions of the report can be kept secret because, if made public, they might adversely affect the city’s land negotiations.

The consensus of the council is that it will abide by Brown’s judgment on what will be public, said Mayor Ann B. Joynt and Councilmen Sherman Kappe and John Crawley. City Manager Gaylord F. Knapp did not want any of the report to be public, according to the three officials.

The council meeting will be held on a Tuesday night because some members want to attend the California League of Cities conference in Carmel later in the week. Normally, City Council meetings are the first Wednesday of every month and the Thursday after the third Wednesday. Tuesday’s meeting time will stay the same as always, 7 p.m.
