THE SIDELINES : Nightmare Disables Jays’ Hill

Outfielder Glenallen Hill, who suffered cuts and scrapes last week during what he said was a violent nightmare about spiders, was put on the 15-day disabled list by the Toronto Blue Jays today. Outfielder Mark Whiten was called up from Toronto’s International League affiliate in Syracuse, N.Y.

Hill suffered cuts and scrapes on both feet, his knees and right elbow. Hill, who was hitting .239 with seven home runs and 20 RBIs in 45 games, was put on the disabled list retroactive to July 6.

Whiten, a switch hitter, joined the Blue Jays in Anaheim, where they will open a four-game series tonight against the Angels. The 23-year-old is leading the International League with a . 317 batting average and has hit 14 homers and driven in 46 runs in 85 games.
