Irene Champlin; Actress Featured in ‘Flash Gordon’

Irene Champlin, 59, best known for her role in the 1953-54 television series “Flash Gordon.” Miss Champlin, whose real name was Irene Field, played Dale Arden in the syndicated science fiction series, acting opposite Steve Holland as Gordon and Joseph Nash as Dr. Zharkov. She also was seen in television’s “The Verdict Is Yours,” “From These Roots” and “Guiding Light.” On stage, she had leading roles in “Calculated Risk” and “For Crying Out Loud.” She also played lead roles in the motion pictures “Resistance” and “Guerrilla Girl.” In Greenwich, Conn., on Tuesday after what was described only as a lengthy illness.
