ANAHEIM : City Receives Grant for Neighbor Patrols
Based on the reported success of Anaheim’s community police program in the Jeffrey-Lynne neighborhood, a $112,500 state grant has been awarded to the city to continue follow-up work in that area and other neighborhoods with similar needs.
The funds will establish a pilot program with one police officer and one city code enforcement officer, who will set up groups of citizens in certain neighborhoods to help report crimes and to identify buildings that do not comply with city codes.
Anaheim Police Capt. Peter De Paola said that volunteer involvement is the key to the success of the program because the department does not have enough officers to patrol every neighborhood.
The grant is a one-time appropriation, but police hope that the city will sponsor it in future years if it is successful.
