Billy Crystal, Rick Moranis and Bruno Kirby play three pals who take time off from their high-pressure New York City jobs to go on a week-long cattle drive across Wyoming in Castle Rock’s “City Slicker.” Ron Underwood directs this Lowell Ganz-Babaloo Mandel screenplay about life, friendship and cows beginning late August in Santa Fe, N.M.. Irby Smith produces while Crystal executive produces.

Ellen Burstyn will star opposite Martin Landau in Christina Pictures’ romantic drama “The Color of Evening,” which producer/director Stephen Thomas Stafford starts shooting July 30 in Southern California. Burstyn plays the model who inspires an aging painter in both art and love.

Danish producer Just Betzer, winner of the best foreign film Oscar for 1987’s “Babette’s Feast,” is set to launch two films through his Los Angeles-based Jube Films. In “Newman,” getting under way in L.A. this month, Tony Cookson directs his own screenplay about two boys who invent a robot to help their struggling widowed mother. Sam Behrens (Danny Waleska on “Knot’s Landing”) and John Quade join previously announced Marcia Strassman, Joshua Miller and Edan Gross. Meanwhile, on Sept. 3, Kenneth Madsen will roll cameras in Denmark for “A Day in October,” starring D. B. Sweeney, Kelly Wolfe Tovah Feldshuh and Daniel Benzali Damien F. Slattery’s love story is set against the backdrop of Denmark’s rescue of its Jewish population during Nazi Occupation.

Phoebe Cates and Rick Mayall star in “Drop Dead, Fred,” which Paul Webster produces for the London-based Working Title Prods. Ate Dejold directs Anthony Fingleton and Carlos Davis’ screenplay about a woman, about to be married, who is visited by her childhood fantasy friend. The independent film gets under way in Minnesota Aug. 6.

Bill Pullman joins Kevin Anderson, Pamela Gidley, Kim Novak in Initial Films and Pathe’s “Liebestraum,” currently filming in Binghamton, N.Y. Mike Figgis produces (with Eric Fullner and Michael Flynn), wrote and is directing this atmospheric drama about an adopted man meeting his birth mother for the first time and coming to grips with a long-ago murder.
