Safety Group Asks For Recall of Some Chrysler Cars: The Center For Auto Safety said it has petitioned the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to investigate and recall 5.5 million front-wheel drive Chrysler cars and minivans because of faulty transmissions. The safety group said a study had uncovered 76 reports in which the transmission had failed to engage or hold “park,”resulting in the vehicle moving. The failure, the group said, had caused 73 accidents, with two deaths and 20 injuries. The vehicles cited in the petition are the 1981-89 Dodge Aries and Plymouth Reliant, 1982-87 Dodge 400 and Chrysler LeBaron, 1983-88 Dodge 600 and Plymouth Voyager vehicles.
