David Andrew Turner Jr.; Bank Auditor
David Andrew Turner Jr., who was an assistant vice president with First Interstate Bank, has died at his Sepulveda home. He was 42.
Turner had worked for the bank since 1983 as an auditor in the data processing department in the bank’s Los Angeles office.
He died Sunday from complications of AIDS, said his companion, David Gutierrez.
A native of St. Louis, Turner studied during his high school and college years at a seminary in St. Louis and earned a Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Texas in 1978. He came to California, where he taught at Mt. St. Mary’s College, Virgil Junior High School in Los Angeles and the Language Institute. He went to data processing school and worked for movie studios and Security Pacific Bank before being hired by First Interstate Bank. He also was a volunteer for the Chris Brownlie Hospice in Los Angeles.
Turner is survived by his parents, Margaret Ester Schumacher and David Andrew Turner of St. Louis; a brother, William Anthony Turner of Houston; and a sister, Patricia Ann Gralick of St. Louis.
A Mass is scheduled to be celebrated at noon today at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 15444 Nordhoff St., Sepulveda. Donations in Turner’s name may be sent to the Discalced Carmelite Nuns, 6301 Culebra and St. Joseph Way, San Antonio, 78238-4909.
