A federal judge Tuesday set next Monday for the start of hearings on whether a Los Angeles County redistricting plan drawn by the Board of Supervisors remedies discrimination against Latinos.

In a related development, more than 100 people disrupted the supervisors’ meeting Tuesday protesting the spending of $500,000 for retiring Supervisor Pete Schabarum to appeal Kenyon’s ruling to the U.S. Supreme Court, if necessary. They walked out as Supervisor Mike Antonovich defended the expenditure.
