The police association and the city have reached a two-year agreement on police salaries, giving all officers a 6.25% raise and an increase in benefits.

Also, the city agreed to grant a 5% salary increase next July.

The salary range for a senior police officer now starts out at $3,197 a month, topping out at $3,886 per month, said Personnel Director Steve Hayman.

The total package will cost the city $543,000.

Meetings between the city personnel department and the Costa Mesa Police Assn. resulted in a .75% increase in medical benefits and an agreement to study alternative work weeks, in which officers would be given the opportunity to work varying shifts.

“Quite frankly, the city’s interest in this study is to find out what will advance the service levels and productivity out of the work force,” Hayman said.
