Marie Meyerholtz, a longtime member of the Antelope Valley Republican Women Federated, has died at her Lancaster home. She was 83.

Mrs. Meyerholtz served as president of the club in 1973 and 1974.

Born Dec. 25, 1906, in Portales, N. M., she died Friday of cancer, said her daughter-in-law, Madge Hemperly.

Mrs. Meyerholtz moved to Lancaster to 1952 and worked in the early 1960s in the classified and accounting departments at the Antelope Valley Press.

She joined the nonprofit Republican women’s club in the early 1960s and remained active until the early 1980s. On a wall at her house hung a photo of herself and then-Gov. Ronald Reagan taken at a cocktail party at the Century Plaza Hotel on Aug. 23, 1973. She often volunteered at the polls on Election Day, most recently in 1988.

She is survived by her sons, H. C. (Mike) Hemperly of Lancaster and Carl Meyerholtz of St. Louis; a daughter, Ty Killen of Lancaster; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held this week. Arrangements were made by Halley-Olsen Funeral Chapel in Lancaster. Donations can be made in Mrs. Meyerholtz’s name to the American Cancer Society in Lancaster.
