A Spring Valley man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of the fiance of his ex-girlfriend in the parking lot of an El Cajon restaurant.

On Thursday, after one day of deliberations, a San Diego Superior Court jury found Randall Larson, 31, guilty of the Sept. 23, 1989, killing of Raymond Kist, 51, of Dublin, Calif.

Judge Bernard Revak set sentencing for Aug. 20. Larson faces a maximum term of 27 years to life in state prison.

Kist was shot in the chest and neck with a shotgun in the parking lot of Allie’s Restaurant on Main Street in El Cajon about noon. Larson then turned the weapon on himself in an apparent suicide attempt, but survived a wound to his chest.

“It was basically a love triangle,” said Deputy Dist. Atty. Oscar Garcia.

Debra Bennett, who had dated both men, witnessed the shooting in the parking lot, but was not harmed. Kist died at the scene.

Larson remains in County Jail without bail.
