BAGUIO, Philippines —
Strong aftershocks rocked this mountain city today, sending residents fleeing into the streets and hampering the search for victims of last week’s earthquake. The death toll surpassed 1,000.
In Manila, President Corazon Aquino urged Congress to approve a $500-million relief package to rebuild infrastructure destroyed by last Monday’s quake, which had a magnitude of 7.7.
