Schools Will Limit Funds Request for Ambassador
Attempting to reassure a nervous State Allocation Board, the Los Angeles Board of Education on Monday reworded an earlier promise to seek no more than $50 million to acquire and demolish the former Ambassador Hotel.
The school board voted 6-0 for a resolution stating it will be responsible for any costs above that amount, including the tab for any court fights over the property. Developer Donald Trump wants to build offices and shops on the mid-Wilshire site, which the district wants for a new high school.
An attempt by two members of the Allocation Board to revoke the $50 million promised last May was narrowly defeated in Sacramento last week. The two said the district had not provided sufficient guarantee that it would not seek more than that.
