Avon Products Inc.: The beauty products firm reported a 20% increase in net income on a 2% increase in sales for the second quarter of 1990. The company earned $47.5 million on sales of $793.3 million. Excluding the 1989 sales of Parfums Stern, which was sold in January, Avon sales were up 6%. The New York-based company cited continuing profit improvement in U.S. operations and a continued reduction in interest expense for the results.
