A four-day equestrian event well known to riding enthusiasts will be held Aug. 9-12 as the first fund-raiser for the Huntington Beach Art Center, slated to open next Fall. The GTE Directories Summer Classic will feature horses and riders competing for speed and style, a high-jump contest pitting Olympic medalist Dwight Stones against a champion horse, equestrian demonstrations and jousting. The event, sponsored by GTE Directories, a telephone directory publisher, will be held at the Huntington Central Park Equestrian Center. Tickets for the Aug. 11 and 12 fund-raising events are $75 per person and will include VIP seating, continental breakfast and catered lunch. Proceeds will go toward reconstruction of an 11,000-square-foot building in downtown Huntington Beach to house the planned contemporary art center. Information: (714) 536-5258.
