Hiring Undocumented Workers Against Law

In response to your article in the Metro section July 20, “Hiring Center is Luring Workers but Only a Handful of Employers,” the article stated that only five prospective employers showed up. If these five prospective employers hired a known illegal immigrant, they have broken a federal law just like any other employer (for example, the garment industry, which the INS raids all the time).
Councilman Ernani Bernardi stated, “The facility provides a responsible place for men to work.” Apparently because of this, Bernardi condones violating federal law, using taxpayer money to do so.
