With just one week left for candidates interested in running for local school boards, several late contenders are entering South County races.
In the Saddleback Valley Unified School District, incumbents Dore John Gilbert of Laguna Hills and Roberta (Bobbee) Cline of Mission Viejo have taken out candidacy papers, along with challenger Charles R. Wall of Trabuco Canyon. Gilbert and Cline are the only incumbents up for reelection.
In the Laguna Beach Unified School District, incumbents Susan Mas and Gene Felder and newcomer Karen Linden have also taken out papers. A third incumbent, Harvey S. Triebwasser, has not filed.
Meanwhile, in the Capistrano Unified School District and the Saddleback College Board of Trustees, all incumbents have filed for reelection but no challengers have entered the races.
Candidates have until Aug. 10 to take out and return the papers to the county registrar of voters. Challengers have until Aug. 15 if all incumbents do not file.
