Rene George; Commercial Real Estate Broker

Rene George, a commercial real estate broker in the San Fernando Valley, has died in Tarzana. He was 66.

George died Wednesday of cancer, said his wife, Beth George.

Born Sept. 26, 1923, in Santa Monica, Rene George moved to Canoga Park with his family when he was 5 years old. He graduated from Canoga Park High School in 1941 and served three years in the Army during World War II, achieving the rank of sergeant.

He and his brother, Ray George, later opened George Milling Co. in Canoga Park, a feed and grain mill they operated for 25 years.

In the early 1970s, Rene George became a commercial real estate broker. At the time of his death, he was assistant vice president of Cushman & Wakefield of California, Inc. in Warner Center. He was also a longtime member of the Canoga Park Elks Lodge No. 2190.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years; a son, Gary George of Simi Valley; a daughter, Sue Horton of Moorpark; stepsons, Randy Miller of West Hills and Steve Miller of Westlake Village; a brother, Ray George of Malibu; and six grandchildren.

A funeral is scheduled for today at 10 a.m. at Gates, Kingsley & Gates Funeral Home, 6909 Canoga Ave., Canoga Park, which is handling the arrangements. Burial will follow at San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills. Donations can be made in Rene George’s name to the American Cancer Society, San Fernando Valley unit.
