Monterey Park : Child-Care Center to Open
The city’s first publicly funded child-care center will open Sept. 10, Mayor Judy Chu announced Tuesday.
The day-care program will serve up to 40 children ages 6 to 14 and will be open Monday through Friday from noon to 6 p.m. The cost is $45 per week for Monterey Park residents and $50 for non-residents. Half the spaces have been reserved for low-income families, who will pay $15 per week.
Monterey Park is using $82,000 in federal Housing and Urban Development grants to subsidize the cost of operating and renovating the building at Barnes Park, 350 S. McPherrin Ave. The city expects to obtain a state license, and is accepting applications now.
