Rosecrans Corridor Annexation Gains

Share

A state agency Wednesday approved Gardena’s proposal to annex the Rosecrans Corridor, a 198-acre strip of unincorporated county land that juts into the city from Crenshaw Boulevard to just east of Western Avenue.

The city must now hold a public hearing on the plan to determine public support among the estimated 1,700 residents of the area. If less than a quarter of the area’s residents protest, the annexation will proceed without an election. No public opposition was voiced during this week’s meeting of the Local Agency Formation Commission, officials said.

Gardena officials said they want to provide better police and fire protection to the area’s residents and shops. Prostitution has been a chronic problem along the strip, which features topless bars and other adult entertainment businesses.
