A Carlsbad man, whose 17-year-old daughter died after the two were struck by a hit-and-run motorist as they rode a tandem bicycle July 30, died Tuesday afternoon from head injuries he suffered in the accident, said a spokeswoman at Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla.

Jerry Flaming, 48, will be buried Saturday in Windom, Minn., his hometown, his brother, Rodger Flaming said Wednesday.

Funeral services were held there last weekend for Jerry Flaming’s daughter, Brandy, who died at the scene of the accident. Brandy, who was riding on the rear seat of the tandem, had moved to Carlsbad a week earlier to live with her father.

The two, who were both wearing helmets, were hit from behind as the rode on Carlsbad Boulevard north of Poinsettia Lane about 7 p.m.

A police report stated that the two were not in the bike lane, but about a foot and a half into the right lane.

Jerry Flaming never regained consciousness after the accident. But he “fought a hard battle,” his brother said.

A San Marcos man arrested in connection with the accident is scheduled to be arraigned in Vista court at 1 p.m. Aug. 16, a spokeswoman at the County Jail at Vista said.

Police said the man was arrested after a witness chased the suspect and talked him into returning to the scene of the accident.

William J. Meiss, 51, was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter, felony hit-and-run driving and drunken driving causing injury. He posted $10,000 bail and was released from jail a day after the accident.
