Jury Selection Begins in Todd Bridges Retrial
Jury selection began Friday in the retrial of actor Todd Bridges, charged with assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly shooting a drug dealer eight times inside a South Los Angeles cocaine “rock” house.
Jurors at his first trial deadlocked 8 to 4 in favor of acquitting Bridges, forcing a mistrial last November.
The same jury acquitted Bridges, 24, the star of such television sitcoms as “Diff’rent Strokes” and “Fish,” of more serious charges of attempted murder and attempted voluntary manslaughter.
The retrial on the assault charge is expected to last several weeks. If convicted, Bridges could be sentenced to up to four years in state prison. He is free on $25,000 bail.
The charge stems from the shooting of convicted Texas drug dealer Kenneth “Tex” Clay. Bridges allegedly shot Clay eight times on Feb. 2, 1989, inside a house where rock cocaine is sold.
