The American Red Cross is establishing a disaster team in Moorpark to aid emergency workers in the event of a major fire or earthquake.
Red Cross instructors hope to train five to 10 volunteers beginning today at Moorpark City Hall on how to assist in a major disaster, said Brian Bolton, executive director of the Ventura chapter of the Red Cross. The classes will run through Sept. 22.
The Red Cross for the last five years has had disaster teams in Camarillo, Port Hueneme, Ojai, Oxnard, Thousand Oaks and Ventura, Bolton said. Other teams are being sponsored in Fillmore, Moorpark and Santa Paula to ensure coverage throughout the county, he said.
Volunteers interested in joining the teams can call 643-9928.
