John M. Driscoll; Retired Maintenance Carpenter

John M. Driscoll, who was a retired maintenance carpenter with Lockheed for 42 years, has died at Holy Cross Hospital. He was 73.

Driscoll, who lived in Reseda more than 40 years, died Sunday from complications of Alzheimer’s disease, said Helen Driscoll, his wife of 46 years.

Born in Weiser, Ida., Driscoll came to California in 1939. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He was assigned to the 302nd Infantry Regiment and entered Berlin as a member of Gen. George Patton’s forces.

He began working for Lockheed Corp. as a timekeeper and then worked as a maintenance carpenter until he retired in 1980. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 1986.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Reseda; sons Michael Driscoll of Hermiston, Ore., Barry Driscoll of Reseda, Neal Driscoll of Sylmar and Brian Driscoll of Canyon Country; daughters Colleen Weiland of Sylmar, and Kathleen McAlpine of Valencia; a sister, Patricia Branigar of Orange; a brother, Thomas Driscoll of West Covina; 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 9 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Reseda. Burial will follow at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery in Mission Hills. Arrangements were made by Bastian & Perrott Mortuary in Northridge. Donations can be made in Driscoll’s name to Father Flanagan’s Boys Town in Omaha, Neb., or to the TreePeople.
