HUNTINGTON BEACH : Garden Grove Man Arrested in Rape
A Garden Grove man who allegedly raped a 20-year-old woman in her apartment early Tuesday was chased down by the victim’s roommates and later arrested, authorities said.
Lt. Jeff Cope said William Fifield, 23, entered the apartment occupied by the victim and two male roommates through an unlocked front door and attacked the woman around 2:30 a.m.
The victim’s screams were heard by her roommates, who were in their rooms downstairs in the two-story apartment in the 2000 block of Huntington Street.
After a fight, Cope said, the roommates chased Fifield to an adjacent apartment, but he was able to escape. He was arrested by police officer a short time later.
The victim, who was not identified, was treated for her injuries at Humana Hospital-Huntington Beach and later released.
Fifield, who suffered bruises from the fight, was arrested on suspicion of rape and burglary and was being held on $50,000 bail at the Huntington Beach jail.
“He (Fifield) got punched a few times, but nothing substantial,” Cope said.
