STANTON : Council to Keep Seat Open Till November
The City Council unanimously decided this week to leave a vacant seat on the council open until the Nov. 6 election rather than appointing a replacement.
“We’ve only got a few months until the election,” said Mayor Edward L. Allen.
The seat was left vacant by the resignation of Charles Babler, who stepped down for health reasons last month just before the council was set to reconfirm him as its newest member.
Babler, 54, was unanimously approved as council member June 26, replacing Paul G. Verellen, who resigned earlier in the month. However, because Babler was not a registered voter at the time of his appointment, the council was planning to reconfirm him after he registered.
Three seats will be filled in November, with Allen the only incumbent seeking reelection.
