Original Prosecutor in Menendez Case Returns

The original chief prosecutor in the Menendez murder case, who stepped aside to participate in the McMartin preschool retrial, is resuming the top role in the Menendez case, the Los Angeles district attorney’s office said Thursday.
Spokeswoman Sandi Gibbons said that Deputy Dist. Atty. Pamela Ferrero is returning to prosecute Lyle Menendez, 22, and his brother, Erik, 19, on charges that they murdered their wealthy parents.
She will replace Deputy Dist. Atty. Elliott Alhadeff, who handled the preliminary stages of the Menendez case and won a court ruling that videotapes of alleged confessions by the brothers to their psychologist may be introduced as evidence.
The ruling by Superior Court Judge James Albracht last week was later temporarily blocked by a three-judge panel of the U.S. 2nd District Court of Appeals. The court gave prosecutors until Aug. 24 to file opposing arguments.
