Fashionable Furnishings

There is a sofa in the window of the Formanova showroom on South Robertson Boulevard that looks like a large Fendi handbag. It is covered in the black and ocher striped Fendi fabric and trimmed with natural-colored leather. It is from Fendi Casa, the new, 117-piece furniture collection.

Milanese architect Claudio Lazzarini worked design details from other Fendi products into the collection’s clean geometric lines. Reinforcing leather is used on the corners and seams of the sofas and chairs, just as it is on the luggage. The upholstery (designed by Karl Lagerfeld) owes a great deal to the fashion side of the Fendi business: The cushion covers and headboards are easy to change, interchange or remove for cleaning. Carla Fendi, one of the five Fendi sister, calls it dressing furniture.

Prices of Fendi Casa are $400 to $5,000. The ottoman for the Domiziana chair, for example, is $842, while a shoulder bag in Fendi’s new woven leather is $875.
