Hugh C. Irey; Former L.A. Police Commissioner
Hugh C. Irey, 92, a Los Angeles city police commissioner from 1950-53. Appointed by Mayor Fletcher Bowron, Irey was a veteran of World War I and an accountant who served as a special agent in the Intelligence Division of the U.S. Treasury Department. A resident of Los Angeles for 40 years, Irey returned to Maryland after his retirement in 1970. On Aug. 2 in Tacoma Park, Md., of the complications of heart disease.
