AMR to Order European Planes: AMR Eagle Inc., the largest U.S. commuter air carrier and a subsidiary of AMR Corp., will buy $1 billion in European-made aircraft in one of its largest purchases ever, according to sources. Although the company refused to confirm or deny the reports, sources said AMR Eagle will buy 100 twin-engine turboprop planes from ATR, the French-Italian joint venture.
