GM Contract Proposal Due: General Motors said it will give the United Auto Workers union a contract offer later this week designed to make the union pick the auto maker as the target company for nationwide negotiations. GM Vice President Alfred Warren, the company’s chief labor negotiator, didn’t specify a day or give further details about what the No. 1 auto maker would offer. Contracts covering more than 450,000 workers at GM, Ford and Chrysler expire Sept. 14. On Aug. 28, after a UAW leadership conference in Detroit, the union is expected to choose one of the three auto makers as a target for further negotiations.
