Cerritos : Parks Panel Asked to Form Ideas for a Senior Center

Share

A place for senior citizens to gather may become a reality in Cerritos now that the City Council has directed the Parks and Recreation Commission to explore the idea of building a senior center.

At its meeting last week, the council said it wanted the commission to come up with some ideas about where a center ought to be located, what sorts of programs it should offer and what size it should be.

Seniors have complained for years that they were being ignored by the council even though the city’s aged population is growing. Currently, the city-sponsored senior club, the Gadabouts, meets only once a month in the recreation building at Cerritos Park East. That building, however, does not have a large enough kitchen to handle anything but potluck meals.
