A Colorado work camp escapee was flushed out of a top-floor room of a bay-side hotel today, about two hours after police rescued a security guard he had held hostage for 32 hours.

The gunman, identified as Randy Dolph, was arrested about 10:45 a.m. after police shot tear gas into the ninth-floor room of the Harbor Island Travelodge, police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

The standoff began to end about 8:50 a.m. after the security guard, Donnie Evans, 56, of El Cajon was rescued by police, who had sent a tray of food to the hotel room.

“The hostage was sent by the suspect to retrieve the tray of food outside. When Evans did that he was grabbed by police officers, who were on both sides of the door,” Robinson said.
