Miguel Bertran; Machine Shop Inspector

Miguel Bertran of Glendale, who was a machine shop inspector, has died in Los Angeles. He was 54.

The native of Guantanamo, Cuba, died last Friday. The cause of death at Good Samaritan Hospital is not known at this time, said his nephew, George Torres.

Married in Cuba in 1960, Bertran immigrated to the United States in 1968 with his family and settled in Glendale. He took a machine shop course at Costa Mesa College and started working as a shop inspector with ITT General Controls in Glendale in 1972. He worked at ITT for eight years and in 1980 transferred to Manesco Colt Industrials.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Magali; a son, Michael Bertran of Glendale; daughters Maria Pinzon of Santa Ana, Vivian Spurley of Ontario and Diane Bertran of Glendale; brothers Orlando Bertran of Havana, and Manuel Bertran of Bloomington, Calif.; and sisters Ida Rodriguez of Santiago de Cuba, Cuba, Iraida Medrano of Glendale, Elvia Garcia of Palmdale, Iria Martinez of Westminster and Nelva Torres of Glendale.

A funeral service will be held today at 9:30 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in Burbank. Arrangements were handled by Eckerman-Heisman Funeral Service in Burbank. Donations can be made in Bertran’s name to the American Heart Assn.
