Police believe that a 19-year-old transient arrested on burglary charges may also be responsible for two rapes in a residential area.

Ramiro Lopez Ramirez was charged with two counts of forcible rape, two counts of residential robbery and two counts of residential burglary on Wednesday, according to Fullerton police. He is being held at County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond.

The charges stem from two separate incidents, one on July 17 and one on Aug. 3. The victims, ages 62 and 85, both live in an older Fullerton neighborhood, and in each case the intruder entered the victim’s apartment through an unlocked window or door. Both women were beaten during the attacks.

Ramirez was arrested on unrelated burglary charges Aug. 8 when caught while allegedly hiding in a closet at a Cal State Fullerton women’s dormitory at 2026 Oxford Ave., according to city spokeswoman Sylvia Palmer.

He was linked to the rapes through composite drawings and was selected out of a photo lineup by one of the victims, Palmer said.

He also faces burglary, attempted burglary and assault charges in the Oxford Avenue incident.
