When Helen Shaver appears as television co-anchor Kelby Robinson in “WIOU,” a new fall series set to air Wednesday nights at 10 on CBS, she’ll be wearing L.A.-designer clothes. Much of Shaver’s wardrobe comes from Jennifer Joanou and Richard Tyler. Pat Welch, the show’s costumer, says she hopes the mix of Joanou’s soft lines and sheer fabrics with Tyler’s more theatrical twist in suits will “inspire some of our TV anchors to sit up and take note.”

* GOOD LUCK CUT: In the premiere of the TV series “Parenthood,” actor Ed Begley Jr. wears a yuppie-in-the-suburbs haircut--styled, not barbered--by Cristophe of Beverly Hills, who explains how he got the job: “Actors are superstitious. I cut Ed Begley’s hair for the first time the night before he auditioned for the movie ‘She-Devil,’ and he got the part.”

* 36B X 14: If a woman has 14 bras, does that make her the Imelda Marcos of lingerie? Not according to Leslie Rea, spokeswoman for S & S Industries, an underwire manufacturer. Rea, who’s in town supervising bra fittings at select Lingerie Cacique stores, suggests 14 as the prefect number of bras a woman should have in her wardrobe. Fittings will continue today at Lingerie Cacique inside The Limited in The Beverly Center.

* JUST REWARDS: Angela Lansbury was recently out celebrating her seventh Emmy nomination for “Murder, She Wrote” with designer Pauline Trigere at I. Magnin. When Trigere was in town with her fall ’90 collection, Lansbury picked out six outfits, one an award-show-worthy black dress with embroidered crystals and a matching crystal embroidered black mohair coat.

* COCO TIME: Chanel launched three new watch designs during the July haute couture shows in Paris, taking over the Coco Chanel suite at the Ritz, where the designer lived in the ‘30s, and draping the time pieces on dressing tables and desks, as if Chanel had just taken them off. The collection made a less dramatic L.A. debut last week in the Rodeo Drive Chanel store, but it actually needed little fanfare to get attention. The elegant, square-face, 18-karat-gold designs have mother of pearl, onyx and enamel details, and the bands are made of cultured pearls, gold chains or leather. They will be available in November at Chanel boutiques, including the new South Coast Plaza store opening in October. The prices: $3,750 to $7,000.

* CAR CLOTHES: Interior designer John McGuire is making cabbage rose printed slip covers for cars--the whole car. They are made from 100% cotton chintz, which is very popular with the ladies of the Westside, says McGuire. “They can get it on and off without damaging their nails, there are no snaps or laces to be threaded,” he says. So far, 18 covers have been special ordered from John McGuire Interiors in Santa Monica. The rose-covered covers (or the fabric of your choice) start at $800.
