Two Unions to Target Cable Firms: The Communications Workers of America and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers hope to tap the booming industry to stem a decade-long decline in traditional membership. As cable revenue has mushroomed -- from $2.9 billion in 1980 to $17.3 billion this year -- so has employment. An estimated 101,400 now work in the industry.
