Panel OKs 2 Nominees for Ethics Commission

Share

A Los Angeles City Council committee approved the appointments Tuesday of two nominees for the city’s Ethics Commission, who agreed the new panel “should not legislate morality” but set clear guidelines for city officials.

On a 2-0 vote taken after a brief hearing, the Rules and Elections Committee approved the nominations of Dennis Curtis, a USC law professor, and Edwin Guthman, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and a USC journalism professor. The appointments must be approved by the full City Council, which is to vote on them Sept. 12.

Curtis and Guthman are two of five nominees selected to serve on the commission, which was approved by voters in June as part of a citywide measure that includes several political reforms.
