The Old Warson Country Club in St. Louis, Mo., withdrew from consideration for a Senior PGA Tour event because it refused to set a timetable for recruiting minorities.
The golf course, which has no black or Jewish members, was scheduled to be the site of the Southwestern Bell tournament in 1991. But the PGA Tour requires that courses take active steps towards integrating memberships.
Old Warson President Greg Nooney Jr. said the club’s board decided that they would not accelerate minority membership applicants ahead of a “big backlog” of other applicants.
