Obituaries : Henry B. Kaufman; Former Owner of Lighting Store

Henry B. Kaufman, a lamp designer and former owner of Kayford’s Lighting in North Hollywood, has died at age 77.

Kaufman, a resident of North Hollywood, died Tuesday of a heart attack, said his daughter, Riva Scher. He was born Sept. 5, 1912, in Montreal, Canada. He came to Los Angeles in 1944 and opened Kayford’s Lighting two years later. He designed and made chandeliers and custom lamps.

He closed the North Hollywood store in 1976. He was employed at the Lighting Emporium in Reseda at the time of his death.

Kaufman was a longtime member of the Home Masonic Lodge No. 721 in Reseda.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Edith Kaufman; daughters, Riva Scher of Granada Hills and Elissa Lynn Kaufman of Venice, Calif.; a brother, Lou Kaufman of Montreal; sisters Bea Wagner of Los Angeles, Molly Getzel of Deerfield Beach, Fla., Sara Newman of Montreal, Ruth Berger of Montreal and Dorothy Maraynes of Cranbury, N.J.; and three grandchildren.

A funeral was held Thursday with burial at Eden Memorial Park in Mission Hills. Groman-Eden Mortuary in Mission Hills handled the arrangements. Donations can be made in Kaufman’s name to the Arthritis Foundation.
