Kevin Mitchell agreed to a four-year, $15-million contract with the San Francisco Giants.

Mitchell, voted the National League’s most valuable player last season, will get a $1-million signing bonus and $3.5 million from 1991-1994, an average of $3.75 million per season plus incentives. His deal matches that of teammate Will Clark, who signed for $3.75 million for each of four years.

The Oakland Athletics’ Jose Canseco is the highest-paid player at $23.5 million over five years, followed by the New York Yankees’ Don Mattingly at $19.3 million for five years.

Mitchell, 28, is batting .303 with 30 home runs and 79 runs batted in. Last season, he batted .291 and led the league with 47 homers and 125 RBIs in helping the Giants win their first pennant since 1962.

“My performance is just going to get better,” Mitchell said Friday. “I’m still learning.

“I always knew I was good. I hope it just gets better. This is a happy moment.”
