OJAI VALLEY : Dinner to Aid Late Horseshoer’s Family

Share

Ojai Valley equestrians, saddened by the death of a popular horseshoer, will hold a benefit dinner for his widow and two children Saturday.

Peter A. Heindl, 35, of Santa Barbara died Aug. 30 of abdominal cancer. A farrier for seven years, he had clients throughout Southern California and managed to keep shoeing their horses even after his medical treatments began, said his wife, Terry Heindl.

“Pete was friends with just about everybody,” said Gary Isbell, a fellow farrier in Oak View.

“He was always full of stories and always had a joke, even after he found out he had cancer.

“You would find him at sunup and sundown slinging that hammer, shoeing horses,” Isbell said.

The feed store is holding a $5-a-plate tri-tip or chicken barbecue from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday at William and Marie McTavish’s Westwinds Ranch, 10562 Creek Road, Oak View.

Proceeds from the event will go to Heindl’s family, including a daughter, Tabitha, 12, and a son, Travis, 10.

Norman Davis, owner of Ojai Valley Feed in Meiners Oaks, said those who plan to attend the benefit are asked to bring their own beverage and call ahead at 646-5442.
